There's an L35 currently on ebay which is listed as having the original grille cloth & felt. Did any other edison models use a patterned cloth & this colour felt?

The color of the grille cloth looks right from what I've seen of the remains on the later console machines over here as well as the felt color, though I'm used to seeing the gold felt used on machines with the oxidized metal Reproducer & fittings. I recently parted out a BC-34 that had the gold felt and oxidized metal parts and slight remains of a maroonish grille cloth. I think Matt made mention of a pattern in the cloth in a pervious post.

Thanks Bill. I had a idea I've seen the same felt before- maybe on an Edisonic?, but I'd never seen a patterned cloth before. Thanks again.

Shane, I think you're right now that you mention it. All the Edisonic models I've seen had the gold felt on the TT and I've seen a late C-19 that also had the gold felt as well (this machine also had the 10"-12" selector). I wonder if at some point the Edison factory went completely over to that color in the 20s. Perhaps George Paul can weigh in on this as he has had the pleasure of photographing many machines for his and Tim's books. I did find Matt's reference to grille cloth colors and I couldn't find a reference to a pattern in it so I'm unsure if there was a pattern or not.

3victrolas: That’s a beautiful machine. Is the felt on the turntable original?

I had a William and Mary Console that had the 10" - 12" selection button on the side of the motor board. It had a patterned material similar to that.

Notice in the above pics that the L35 has gold cloth and the Schubert has brown. I can verify that this is correct, as I have a Schubert Edisonic with the brown cloth with a diamond pattern, and I just got a William and Mary console with the gold diamond pattern. They are both very original, and maybe it has a diamond pattern to go with the diamond discs? I don't know how far back this pattern goes, but Vitanola said it is typical of late Edison DD machines. Too bad they don't make this pattern anymore to my knowledge. I have found that some people use the same felt that they put on the turntable as the grille cloth! This is so thick, it muffles the sound. You need a very thin cloth for the grille.
