If you don't know what I'm referring to, then you haven't been 'reading the papers'. I am very disgusted this morning and with one person in particular who is unable to put the hobby ahead of himself and operate a board in the public trust. He has certainly earned a footnote in the history of our hobby. Dare Guess? Looks like this is the de facto clubhouse now. That's my final public comment on the situation. John M

Have you seen the thread in "General Discussion"?
I think you should look at it.

It's amazing that phono-collecting could have lead to such vitriol and unhappiness!
Hopefully this will settle out soon and we can get back to phonos!
Steve - I absolutely LOVED the photos of your fancy Pathe. That is probably the nicest foreign machine I have ever seen. Are you aware of other similar machines? And of course, can you find me one???
Regards, Scott

Boy! You miss a day, wake up in the morning and find that there's been phonographic nuclear war... It's a pity that people with such talent should spend their energies in such negative ways. The ones who really lose in cases like this are the 98 percent who simply want to enjoy their hobby and the camaraderie. I'd like to see everybody come back if it's possible. I suggest we all pick a disc or cylinder (or several) and relax. This hobby should be fun, not a big drama.
BTW: I would also like to thank Matt for maintaining this board. I suspect that administrating a board must be a lot of work and that the thanks are few. So - thanks Matt!
Best wishes to all of you. Martin

Actually, it's not. In fact, it really runs itself, except for occasions when a thread needs to be moved or deleted, and even then it's just a few minutes at best. I have a very busy schedule, and sometimes go for days (and on a few occasions, weeks!) without visiting this board - I have two other admins who keep me posted if something here goes awry, but really it maintains itself. Not sure what all the hub-bub is about really, BUT: while I hope everyone will continue to speak freely here regarding our hobby, please be mindful that there does seem to be a "looney-bird" out there, making a lot of accusations, and stirring up some trouble - let's NOT egg that person on. My thinking is it's best to ignore such individuals, and (in the words of Officer Barbrady) "move along, people - nothing to see here".....

Hey Scott - firstly thanks for the kind comments. However I'm not aware of the same machne existing anywhere currently for sale! The guy who picked it up for me from Paris told me he'd only seen a few of that model for sale in 20 years of dealing with antiques and phonographs / gramophones specifically.
All I did was kept my eyes on French Ebay for a while - like the other Ebay sites, you just never know what might turn up. I would always recommend having "someone on the ground" though if you buy from another country - someone who can pay, collect and check the machine over for you first.
If I DO ever see another, you'll be the first to hear. That is once I've stopped screaming! ;D

Thankfully, we can ignore the lunatics, and anyone who hasn’t re-joined The Talking Machine Forum (version 2.0) can find it here: And hopefully we will be able to continue to direct people to also visit our friends here at The Online Edison Phonograph Discussion Board. There’s no reason why everyone in the online phonograph community cannot get along (e.g. see my signature). And Matt is absolutely right—the day-to-day operations of one of these boards is very simple, and requires little to no effort unless you anger so many people that they want to guest-post negative things in a torrent of messages. But that all goes back to “Do unto others...”. ;D — MordEth
