It looks quite Good Kevan, but how does it sound? I'd imagine it wouldn't compare to the cygnet version, but does the wooden bell make much difference on a straight horn? I guess it would still have the effect of muting the tinny tones of a brass bell?

Three of us brought Vic VIs, all with different types of horns. Ron L. brought his with the early black tin & brass bell, Bob V. brought his with the mahogany spear tip and I brought mine with a Linenoid horn. Our resident sound tech Ron R. brought a sound meter and we set it up in front of one particular machine, that way we utilized the same sound box and we played the same record with the different horns changing the needle each time. For loudness, the black & brass was 1st, the Linenoid a close 2nd, and the mahogany spear point was 3rd. It was a fun little experiment but at the end, I was definitely sick of "Largo al Factotum!" Bill BTW, I see my "namesake" in the upper right corner of the last pic!!!!

yes Bill that maroon is my spoils of the Union show last june. It was the buy of the weekend they say. All original even the crane. It is a little chipped up but not bad and I'm happy with it.
The banner Home I was playing came with a Lineoid horn I think it's 34''long and 21'' wide. I can't wait to record with it, I'm saving that for another cold day.

You should try to cover the tape on the horn with some veneer. May help a bit... otherwise, it looks great

Hi Kevan. I just had a look at he horn you made. I am astounded. Did you make the wooden part yourself as well? If so, you gotta show me how!!! That would be a fun project, and give me an excuse to hide in my wood shop. I won't likely be buying an original horn, so I might as well try making one myself. What did you use for a mold? Did you heat bend the wood for the wooden part of the horn.
