Brad,
What do they use for the linkage on the copper diaphragm, & if it's silk, is the ivory button attached & sealed in the same way as on a rice paper diaphragm?

Brad, Thanks for the note. I saw a pic of yours on another board - looks beautiful. Is it two-tone (did they leave the underside of the lid dark, or strip away the decal and all)? The insides were done as well, however, they left a rectangle, with the coners clipped, of dark finish around the decal. Looks great (to me). I seem to recall reading somewhere (maybe it was Covah's old thread) that the dark finish appeared to be applied over the lighter finish. This may have been for the earlier (D25) machines. Brad, What do they use for the linkage on the copper diaphragm, & if it's silk, is the ivory button attached & sealed in the same way as on a rice paper diaphragm? Hard to say, the linkage has a thread like look that appears as though it may be animal gut. The center of the diaphram has a eyelet that the linkage loops through.

Finished - the top looks glossier in the pics than in real life - it actually matches up quite nicely with the rest of the cabinet. Took me two tries! Enjoy!

Matt, That looks really good, although I had to view the images individually to be certain that they were the same image—initially I thought they were ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures, and I couldn’t make out the difference. — MordEth

Congratulations on a job well done Matt, and a rare finish preserved. It's good to see.

P.S. "Rare finish" indeed, it's cheap tinted shellac. What a shame to cover that beautiful wood.
