Hello All, In the lot of BA cylinders I got last fall, one has a sticker placed over the lid label that reads something to the effect of "Restriction Notice Cancelled". Does anybody know what that meant? This is one of the blue boxes, not an orange one. I can get the record # and other details off the lid if that's important. Thanks for any insights. Take care, Jerry K

I've wondered about that myself. I don't know for sure, but I think it had something to do with the drop in price from 60 cents to 35 cents, and them being allowed to be sold only by jobbers when Edison started selling by mail order?? Apparently he lost a lot of dealers when the price reduction occured, which forced him to start the mail order. Hopefully someone will know exactly what the notice meant though.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe the cylinder was temporarily banned for its content at one time?? - And then the ban was lifted?
Just a thought.

There is also the possibility that it was sold by a dealer that was banned or restricted from selling Edison products at one point and then the restriction was lifted. A few of my Edison Phonograph Monthly books mention the names and addresses of individuals and businesses that were restricted from selling Edison products. Either way, it's interesting!

After the Macy's litigation of 1919 (or was it 1918?), companies were prohibited from enforcing retail prices for their products. These "Restriction Cancelled" stamps can be found on the labels that were printed before the court ruling but not yet shipped from the factory. To comply with the new law, the old restriction had to be cancelled.
