Just got my "new" copy of Edison Blue Amberol Records, dated February, 1914. Interesting little catalog! The inside back page depicts four enclosed-horn Amberola phonographs and the following comment is offered regarding the older, outer-horn machines: "Many Edison enthusiasts have relegated their horn machines to the nursery, or presented them to those less fortunate. In place of the old style Edison, they have adopted one of these cabinet phonographs." I suppose that by the same token, the "less fortunate" in 1914 would have had their more fortunate friends' collections of 2-minute wax cylinders dumped on them. Rocky

Rocky,
In early 1914 two minute records were still being sold by Edison and I do know of one person that gave their early machines to someone else in the mid teens. I also know a man who got a standard B and D as a wedding gift in the early 1920's.

Steve, I don't think that either of us would turn down a gift of an Edison cylinder phonograph, and the year is 2007! ;D Rocky
