Bill.
The only thing you can really do to prevent it from getting longer is to drill a small hole at the end of the crack. A #80 drill is what I use. It appears to go into the playing surface, so you will have to remember to start the song after the hole you drilled or you risk chipping the diamond. This is not a hard to find cylinder. I will look to see if I have a dupe of it.

Bill -----Call me stupid but how the heck did you know the name of this cylinder by just looking at the picture (one more of my dumb questions). Michael

Well,it is official----you can call me stupid and BLIND too.Bill I know your are better than good and know your stuff but for a moment there before you pointed out the fact that I missed the previous posting, I thought you could determine the title of a cylinder just by looking at it and not knowing the numbers. William S.------If you want a couple of the drills that Bill mentioned, let me know and I will send them to you. They are tiny and should be used with care. I can send them to you with the hope that the post office will deliver them to you before Christmas!!! Michael

I bought a tiny hand drill at Radio Shack (now called "The Shack," and perhaps shortly thereafter as "Chapter 11") and use a drill bit around the size of five pound monofilament. It makes as small a hole as I know to stop a crack.
