I had a look through mine, and found 2 without his face. Never noticed them before. I also only found 1 Edison "pale face" version.

John, The deep blue box with the gold Edison script was for the Grand Opera/Concert series..... Bill Bill, I did some searching on-line tonight, what I couldn't find was any mention of the color difference. What's the deal here? Some big secret? You're all out to get me aren't you? Ooh, sorry I'm not supposed to get paranoid 'till after the coup. What coup? It was all Kissinger's idea! Seriously, it's more of a dusty purple/brown than blue. I found nothing at all about the color difference nor the relative rarity or not of these. Inquiring minds want to know. ;D Regards, J.

Hi, the first box on the left was introduced in 1923, just at the time when Edison switched to the brown cardbord lids instead of the older blue ones. This type was soon replaced by the box on the right-hand corner around 1925. This was the very last type of a Blue Amberol Box and lasted until the end of production in 1929.

One thing about the later "bottle cap" lid-----if the BA has a low serial number, it's immediately obvious that the cylinder in question had been on the books for a number of years and that you probably have a copy from a later mold.
