Hi All, I recently got a reprint of the catalogue of Edison Phonographs, Records, Reproducers, Attachments & Accessories (what a mouthful!) form No.1865 dated Oct 1910.
Page 25 shows the Edison Grand Opera records, in both 2 & 4 min wax with prices etc, but the picture shows a plain box with just Edison written on it- like the later Blue Amberol Concert series boxes?? Is there a 2 min box and wax Amberol box like this? The only 2 min grand opera boxes I recall seeing were like normal 2 min boxes with Grand Opera included in the design, and I've never seen a Amberol Grand Opera box. I've always thought the plain box with the word "Edison" across it was a BA box only!

Shane,
Interesting. I have a BA Concert box as you say. Maybe it was a late issue which they decided to carry over into the BA line...?

Wax amberol grand opera (4 minute wax) boxes originally were purple and much like a BA Concert box, only purple and cotton-lined. I just saw a ton of those boxes at Ward Marston's house this past weekend. Never seen 'em before!

Cool! I hope you grabbed a few. Thats another style box I'll have to try and track down. I haven't even seen them on ebay before, so they can't be real common.

Actually, no I didn't get any of them. Ward is going to be selling them eventually, though. Nice clean cylinders with their original boxes and matching tops....

John,
I'll dig out a copy of the maroon Amberol Grand Opera box and take a pic of it for you.

Bill,
WOW, nice! Thanks. Now that's for a (wax) 4M Amberol right?

Yes John, the maroon box was for the Opera/Concert series in 4M wax.
