Hello
I am just about to order a new stylus for my Edison Model C reproducer. Amongst other options, APSCO can supply the sapphire on its own and I am contemplating ordering that.
So the question is, how is the stylus held in the bar? Is it with molten shellac or some other sort of method / glue?
Best Regards Bernt

Bernt,
The originals were held by stick shellac, much like a roller or pallet jewel. I don't know what they use in modern replacements.

Hello I am really sorry that this thread has landed in the wrong forum. I don't realize it when I posted. Maybe it can be moved? Anyway, I have some concern. On the reproduce I am repairing, the stylus is ball shaped and the carrier bar, has an angle on the stylus hole so it point more toward the cylinder. I am not sure if a doorknob stylus can be used ins ted? I only want to replace it because the shaft that goes through the bar is broken in half. I think the stylus would still be usable if I can shllac it back in place. What do you think? Attachments:

Bernt,
That is the right bar for the typical 2M doorknob stylus. And that has to be the most bulbous stylus I have ever seen! I wonder if that was a home made one where a glass rod was heated up to where the tip beaded up from the heat.
