Hi all, first post here... I just acquired a Home Phonograph but some pieces are missing/broken or not correct. www.flickr.com/photos/47703245@N02/sets/72157632756514198/ if you have the following parts let me know: feed nut attachment; slotted crank; "shaver"; model C reproducer might also be interested by an original crane if it's a model that can be attached without damaging the case. also, someone fitted ugly red rubber washers on the bed plate... but what should be there? I'll keep this thread up to date with the progress.

Hi LeO and welcome to the board! You have a Home Mod. A and George P will date it for you by the serial number. I see it has a Mod. H Reproducer which was for 4M play but yours is 2M from what is shown. It originally came with a witches hat horn but there were aftermarket cranes and horns offered.
The bed plate was 2 piece and I've seen both felt and rubber grommets used to lessen vibration.
You show a slotted crank in one of the photos. It doesn't work properly?
Other parts that you mention can be found from the various sources in the web sources for parts/repairs section on this forum.

BillF thanks Maroongem for the reply it's serial number H62529 as for washers, I think I'll go for felt... much easier to shape than rubber. I know it originally came with a witch hat horn, I have one on my Standard; I just think a Home looks better with something larger. I said I was looking for a crank because what I have is plain ugly, it's a piece of 7/8 flat bar crudely welded on an original(?) spindle. knob is held by a modified hex head screw.

Home No.62529 left the factory about December 1902.
As Bill noted above, your reproducer is intended for 4 minute cylinders. Don't play 2 minute cylinders with it - - you'll want a Model C (or Model B for brown wax) for those.
If you can attend one of several phonograph shows that are held around the country (Wayne, New Jersey; Orlando, Florida; Union, Illinois, Los Angeles, California, etc.), you can easily find an original crank for your machine, as well as a crane and a large flower horn.
Nice Home - - good luck!
George P.

so it was made in 1902? I guessed 1901 so quite close. I'm in Canada and no drivers license but if I could visit these shows I would! I don't plan on using the H reproducer, that's why I included a model c reproducer in my list. but maybe I could "Amberolise" it if I can get the gear kit? getting interesting now...

Hello LeO,
Personally I wouldn't covert it to 4 minute if I were you. I think it's worth as much, or more in it's original configuration. It's in very good shape.

Yeah, I agree.. The machine has a 4-minute -H reproducer, Valecik is right, You don't have a 4-minute Mandrel with gear setup, You have the original 2-minute setup, so I would leave it that way. Use the 4-minute H reproducer for another project.. I also would not convert it to 4-minute as well and just leave it alone as original. Just find a Model C reproducer somewhere...They are plentiful..especially on Ebay..

Here's a link to a bunch of people who sell parts for antique phonographs: forum.talkingmachine.info/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=195Wyatt's is a good place, but no web interaction. I also recommend Ron Sitko, who likewise has no web business, but can be reached by phone (he's the 13th one listed on the link above). Ron's prices are among the lowest. George P.

Not quite sure what you mean by Wyatt's having no web interaction unless you are referring to an email address but that is their website posted above. They are great to deal with but you have to take into consideration the time difference if you are not on Pacific time.

thanks for the feedback, it's cool to know they're good people... I'll go with Wyatt's as savings over APSCO are quite substantial. can't wait to get my first credit card ever.

I'm also new to the board. I used Wyatt's to get most of my cabinet parts. Mostly great experience, though the hinges didn't fit exactly to my Standard B. Not really their fault, they did meet my described criteria. Their prices on Reproducers are a bit high though. Looks like you have a nice project, about the same condition my Standard started from.

yeah, most model C reproducers sell for $90-$125 on Ebay, so $170 for Wyatt's is a bit steep. APSCO is just completely off at $198. I know they're rebuilt, but heck... BillF, George P., what do you think?

BillF, George P., what do you think? I think $90 - $125 is better! Rebuilding a reproducer takes about 10 minutes if you've done them before. Your first one might take twice that long. A couple of rubber gaskets and 20 minutes to save fifty or seventy five bucks? Sounds like time well spent. George P.
