I had a question about my Edison model B - got it working, adjusted to the right speed, but when I play the cylinder, the needle seems to be fine for a few seconds, then seems to skip over the cylinder record too quickly, so the words kind of abbreviate and parts are cut out. Is this a problem with my cylinder, or something I need to adjst on the actual needle, or what? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, it seems as if this problem is the opposite of the previous one. Does your machine have 2/4 minute gearing? It might be that the gearing is out of adjustment..
Of course, you should check the cylinder you're trying to play: if it's an Indestructible, the celluloid may have shrunk, causing the grooves to get out of alignment. Typically, these may play fine for a while; then they start getting out of phase, until the stylus jumps to the next groove...

It sounds like a tracking issue or incorrect stylus as Bill stated above. Kevan

I did miss those replies, thanks BillF! Part of the problem is that I'm such a novice here, and am missing a lot of the details...The reproducer I have is a Model C, online hve found info saying it can play any black or indestructible 2M cylinder. The cylinder is a dark blue, and I think the core is plaster of paris, which from what I have just recently researched (thanks to your comments, BillF), mean that it is probably a 4 minute cylinder. I have ordered another cylinder, a 2M indestructible - hopefully that will solve the problem. Thanks for the advice and info, I am trying to learn all I can and you have been a huge help.
By the way, the original issue with the skipping was that the end of the stylus that connects with the feedscrew wasn't quite touching. The second problem is obviously now due to the type of record. Thanks again for your help and advice, everyone.

Happy to hear you are sorting things out. These machines are definitely a learning experience. The dark blue color tells me it is an Edison Blue Amberol, which in most cases would be a 4M recording. Indestructible/U.S Everlasting cylinders are marked 4M somewhere on the title end, but not so with their 2M recordings.
