Hi,
I am new to this site thanks to my recent purchase of an Amberola V! The motor seems to run well, although maybe a bit loud. The arm is nearly frozen. The bedplate and gearing could use a cleaning and some new grease/oil.
I am wondering what are the best materials for a basic clean up so I can get this machine going.
Thanks,
shep

First off: for basic cleaning of the cabinet and bedplate, I would recommend Gojo (non-pumice variety).
For freeing stuck parts, a penetrating oil such as Liquid Wrench or Kroil is best.
For removing old grease and dirt from gears etc., I have used a product called "Krud Kutter" with good results.
If there is any "thumping" from the mainspring(s), it is best to have them cleaned and re-greased. Once you have cleaned and re-assembled the works, you should re-lubricate them with a good, light sewing machine oil - and perhaps some silicone spray wiped on the carriage shaft.
You should also take a good look at the reproducer: check the stylus carefully, with a good jeweler's loupe, to see whether there is any wear to the diamond; check the diaphragm and link for condition; and replace the gaskets for best performance.
Good luck with your new treasure: hope you'll post some Before/After photos!

Thanks, BillS, for all your suggestions. Once I figure out how to post pictures to the board I will.
Best, shep
