Hi All,
I'm new to this have recently picked up one of these (Edison Disc Phonogrph B19), but does require restoration.
The external timber has a few scratches and appears to have been coated with semi clear at some point. Timber at the moment appears a dark red gum type. I would like to rub it back to bare timber, but need advice on how to approach this?
Also the grille cloth is missing....from what I've seen, it should be a pink...ish color - if anyone can advise where I can buy a piece?
Many thanks

First off, I would recommend trying to clean the cabinet with non-pumice 'GoJo' and ultra-fine steel wool (or its plastic equivalent), before doing anything as drastic as stripping.
The cabinet certainly sounds like the "Rouge" finish that was offered for the B-19. You are correct in stating the material to be gumwood: this was only used on the B-19.
As for the grille cloth: some machines used a sort of "dusty rose" color, which may match the remnants that you find. Look around your local fabric stores for a sheer, silk-finish material.
Needless to say, you should also examine, clean, and lubricate the mechanical parts, as well as rebuilding the reproducer, for best results.

That's correct: you can find it in any good hardware store.
