Hello one and all!
I have an Edison diamond disc player and when playing some records I am getting a kind of excessive vibration sound on high notes on most records. I have had a new diamond fitted to the Reproducer and the problem is still the same. Can anyone give me some help or advice please?
Thank you!

Hey johnboy
It sounds like the diaphragm may be slightly not as tight in the reproducer body as it needs to be. I'd try a slight tightening of the retainer ring holding the diaphragm in place in the body, and see what effect that has. Take care not to overtighten. The diaphragm still needs to be able to vibrate freely.

This is a very common problem which I encountered endlessly using original diaphragms which had seen better days. The materials either become stiff and not as responsive as they once were or some of the shellac used to bind parts might be loose causing a rattle over the music. And yes the gaskets could be the issue but often its not that. The next question then is what to do.. There are many replacement diaphragms around, quite a few leaving much to be desired as far as sound goes and also produce the issues your taking about.. I produce one called the True Tone and if you google AcousticEDison on You Tube you will find lots of videos that are made using it. Now and then I sell a few on ebay or though PM's I receive, most of mine are installed by Steven Medved who is an Edison Expert of well know quality. The other possibility is that if your records are showing any whitish or brownish looking grooves when held to the light at an angle or even just at regular room lighting you will get the kind of issue from the record rather than the diaphragm. Often I have to try several diaphragms to be certain which is the case, if I hear the same problem over and over and can see some wear on the record I pretty much accept its the wear. I have collected Edison records for a very long time an owned quite a number of machines. I had personally never run into a existing diaphragm that didn't buzz in parts of the music.. It wasn't till I perfected my version along with the advent of the Bruce Diamond Stylus that I heard them play clearly.. Thats important as well because I went though 7 new diamond stylus from another company that was the only one at the time producing them, somehow only after the Bruce diamond was installed did I finally hear them totally clear. Here is a link to my videos, the new ones are clear using a new and much finer camera, the old ones are foggy looking and the non adjustable camera made the sound exaggerated.. So the first 25 pages or more now are either new listings or new versions of the old videos I deleted. www.youtube.com/channel/UClOSmiNZaP3oFlECD2a-ckg
