Here is a Waltz on Blue Amberol 2034 released in December 1913 “Gold and Silver Waltz“-Waltz Boston Music by Franz Lehar Played by The National Promenade Band www.box.net/shared/ezrkncx34sHere are the published circular notes: “The name of Franz Lehar, and his operetta “The Merry Widow,” have within the past few years become known the world over. He was born at Komorn, Hungary, on April 30th, 1870. His music is typically in the Viennese style and he is a close and probably the most important follower of the great Johann Strauss. He writes with a remarkable flow of beautiful melody, and is noted for his languorous, slow waltzes, one of which is the feature of all his operettas. This “Gold and Silver Waltz” is typical of Lehar’s instrumental numbers. It is here recorded in the strict rhythm so that it may be used for dancing.” Recorded off an Amberola III Enjoy! Condensite

My mom died Sunday night, age 91. The visitation starts tomorrow and burial Friday. As a result, I am in an acutely sensitive state. Please accept my apologies! "Gold & Silver" is just beautiful! Thank you! I received two books from Allen Koenigsberg today and the CD of the talk he gave at the ENHS in 1977 for the 100th anniversary of the phono. It is great -- phono-pornography! I recommend it highly. $5 from Allen. Luke W.

Thanks Bill. My mom has a 96 year-old sister (a red-head) who bowls three times a week and currently has a 150 average! I hope I have my mom's genes -- my dad died at 52 and I'm 50. Luke W.

I'm not even going to ask if it's candlepin or 10 pin because at 96, 150 is kickass either way!

It's 10-pin. She bowls left-handed. The Louisville Courier-Journal had an article about her in the 'Feature' section a few weeks ago. Luke W,

Sorry to learn of your loss, too, Kevan. In keeping with my 'Gold Is Where You Find It' motto, a woman who used to run with me in high school saw the obit and came by the funeral home. I hadn't seen her in thirty years or better. She told me that her mom died just two weeks ago, and she asked me if I still collected phonographs. Seems that her mom collected antiques and left a house and a couple of sheds packed full of stuff. There are a "couple" of machines and "hundreds" of records there that I am welcome to . . . don't know what they are yet. Little bit of a silver lining there for me! Luke W.
