Gents, I may well be putting my foot in my mouth again vis-à-vis the two grand BA, but I can't help but wonder who would pay $26.00 for a Broadway? Broadway 1208. Maybe a "complete-ist" or someone who really likes song or singer? In my, granted limited, experience Broadways are pretty bad. Regards, J.

It could be some mad bugger like me that collects different labels too? Still, I'm not sure I would pay quite that much for a label that is probably fairly common. I try not to pay anymore than about $10 for UK/US labels I don't have, unless they're foreign language releases- only because I assume the foreign language records would be less common. I have notice a few different labels that are found occasionally out here selling for around the $50 mark in the UK, and being listed a rare. Whether they are rare because they were export only labels that came here, and therefore are hard to find in the UK I dont know. I paid $50 for the chinese pathe I recently got, which was the lowest price any of the ones listed went for- most of the others reached $100 on average. I now wish I had got a few more, because one side is really good. I hate to admit it, but I've been playing it heaps! I never thought I'd see myself actually enjoying a chinese record.

Broadway was pressed by Gennett and there have been some staggering prices paid for some of the hillbilly on Broadway -namely by R. Crumb.

DD, I don't see a relation between Gennett & Broadway other than both being Mid-West concerns. I may be missing something (and probably am!). Broadway started out as a label of the Bridgeport Die & Machine Co. The label was taken over by the New York Recording Laboratories when BD&M went under. NYRL did also press, among others the Claxtonola label which also drew from Gennett masters. The whole reason I bring this up again is I done went and do-ed it again. I bought another one: 1293; Tip Toe Through The Tulips With Me & Painting The Clouds With Sunshine Both Ernie Lee & His Songsters, Fox Trots with Singing!. ;D I'm insane, four bucks, I'm Insane I tell you!!!! Regards, J.

John,
It's very possible too that this Broadway by "Harry's" such-and such band (Melody Men?) was a pseudo for another band. Gennett had some hot talent.
This is one reason I should keep a copy of Rust's discos here on my desk at work! I could look it up and find out why...
