After searching for several months withing a five state area I finally found an Edison Diamond Disk. The Edison plate identifies it as a C250. It was stuck in a storage room of an antique store gathering dust in a small town in Western Montana. In preparing to move the unit if noticed what a appears to be a small (16 gage insulated) wire that plugs into the recorder. The wire appears to run through the arm and down into the speaker. It is obviously original but I am at a loss to it's purpose? The only major condition issue was with two of the little molding pieces missing on the back of the cabinet. Any ideas how I might find replacement molding.

It sounds like the machine has a "Duncan stop". This is an electric brake which was activated by the limit pin & loop at the front of the reproducer, and ran off a low voltage battery. If you lift the turntable off, you should find the electric braking system underneath. There is another thread here about this brake, with a couple links you could follow for some more info.

Yes you have the ducan stop no doubt.. Not too common. Quite a find I would say. I didn't look at it too closely but a local collector has a C250 with the stop and battery still in place. I don't know if you can make them still work or not. Someone on here has a working one I think because in furnishing them with a new diaphragm I recall that the screw I used in the center for the link needed to be turned a certain way or it prevented the weight from moving as necessary for the stop to work.. Maybe they will see this and give some more info?

Gleemanguy, you should get in touch with MT Phono here on the board as he lives in your neck of the woods. Bill

Unfortunately he and I are still not *that* close - 300 miles or so apart. Sadly he is probably one of the closest collectors to me. Gleemanguy - email at scott@montanaphonograph.com

Now that I have read all your posts I see you ended up with a C250. Wish I had known sooner - I have a number of "extra" DD machines I could part with including a really nice C250. If you are looking for DD records (or 78s) a neighbor inherited 1500 78s, DD and cylinder records. Somehow I happily ended up with all of them. There are probably 200-300 DD's many of which I will not need. If you are interested I could hold onto them for you.
