I recently purchased an Antique Edison Standard Phonograph. The serial number is S189460 and the last patent date listed on the plate is Nov. 17, 1903. I have two question/problems.
First it is in need of a new belt. What would be best a rubber or a leather belt? Where would be the best place to purchase one or am I better off to make one?
Second question is. I have an opportunity to purchase an Edison Standard Phonograph 2/4m GEARING to change a Model A or B to a 2 and 4 minute player. Will this work on my machine?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give me. I am sure I will be in need of additional help in the future and hopefully I will be able to help others as I learn.

Hi Tim,
I gather by your S/N that your machine is a Mod. B. If the 2/4M gearing that you can purchase is for a Mod. A/B, go for it. Do the combination gears come with the larger gear cover? If not you will have to get one, either a repro or an original can both be had, the repro will of course be less expensive. To play the 4M cylinders you will need a Mod. H Reproducer. There are others that will fit in the small carriage ring to play 4M but they are pricey and not necessary for you to get the results you want. As far as belts, I have never tried the rubber types offered so I can't give any input on their ability. You can obtain belting from several sources such as Ron Sitko, APSCO and a few others. Feel free to PM me if you need a belt installed on your machine.
