I have an Edison C-200 "Adam" phonograph. I was wondering if anyone has a key that I can buy for it? I saw one on Ebay a couple of months ago and I forgot to bid before it ended and I have been kicking myself ever since.
Some "entrepreneur" has one on Ebay for $119 and I think I'll pass on that.
Thanks,
Eric

keep watching ebay, things are somewhat down on there and them more common keys for edison should sell for a whole lot less that that. In fact if you type in the Edison Key, then select the completed items it would give you a range of what they are going for. I don't personally know if the various styles of key design all open the different locks or not? I am sure someone will know. I see the round one with the E in the middle which is what my C19 came with. I see the popular Dolphin keys too, don't know if it works the same?

Your Adam would come with the "dolphin" key rather than the latter "E" key that was used on machines made after 1919. The dolphin style keys are more common and sell for a lot less than the latter "E" keys.

I have a C-200 also, & I thought I post a picture of the dolphin key for this machine. There might be new collectors/readers just starting out that don't know what a dolphin key looks like. It really is a beautiful key that goes nicely with the cabinet style of the C-200.

Please be aware that these keys also fit other furniture besides Edison Phonographs so sometimes the bit won't operate an Edison lock.

3victrolas, I was able to match up a key thanks to your picture. When you turn it to the right, nothing happens, when you turn it left the lock pops up and it locks. My problem is that you can't remove the key without turning back to the right and unlocking it. Which way do you turn it to lock it and remove the key with it remaining locked? I oiled it a little, but I don't want to press the issue until I know which direction it is supossed to go. Thanks

Eric, Like yours, my Edison machines that lock are turned counter-clockwise but continue all the way around so the bit is now at the bottom of the key escutchion and can be pulled out with the lid locked. You may have to pull the lock out of the cabinet and clean it out.

Maroongem, you're right! I never noticed until today that the key continues all the way around counter-clockwise & and can be pulled out w/ the lid locked. I just assumed that once locked I needed to turn the key back to the right to remove it. LOL! I learn something new every day!

I just bought a key from this Guy in MI. www.victroladoctor.com/I it is reproduction, but works and looks like the orginial Dolpin key. He seems like a good person to do business with.
