Well I got the governor today and put it on and it works GREAT! So all the vibs are gone and the machine is much more quiet. On to a Gear cover for it, if anyone has one for standard B with the extra gearing. In very good shape with 90% gold strip still visable. I would be interested.

2 M is usually in( the knob) on a factory made 2/4 M machine or to the left (the switch) on a conversion unit sold by the Edison factory to update 2M machines to combination types. That belt, if it's yours, needs to be replaced.

Thanks Bill & Luke for the help.
No, that is not my machine just a shot of a 2/4 min gear accessory. So it is not my belt.
I think I see how it works now, please correct me if I'm wrong. The gearing only changes the speed of the feedscrew not the rpm of the mandrel so that the reproducer travels quicker for the 2 min and slower for the 4 min.

Hi All Update on the Standard B rebuild is as follows: -After replacing the governor wieght the viberations were gone -The sound Quality improved greatly. -I'm just waiting for a very nice original gear cover. Now that I have the standard working to a beginners standards I thought I might attemped to make a cygnet horn out of paper machie. Now I know all you purists out there are going to shutter at the sight of this BUT be it known that I WILL BE THE ONE WALKING AROUND THE UNION SHOW WITH A MIGHTY FINE CYGNET HORN. I just have a hard time waiting till then. Here is the horn on a home made crane because I was told to buy the horn first and then the crane. In a raw form( NOT PAINTED )yet I wanted to hear it first and fine out if you guys think I should waist any more time on it. Take a listen I think the rpm's are alittle fast Billy Murray singing Little bY Little Bit by Bit BA 3147. I kept sing that song to myself as I was tearing pieces of paper and dipping it into the flour and saltwater and sticking them to a wooden mold I had made first. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEusud4BKQU

Kevan,
Neat job on the horn!!!!! Murray is a little bit fast. The quick way to adjust the speed is stick a piece of tape at the end of the mandrel letiing it hang over a bit and start the machine. When up to speed, let the tape lightly hit one of your fingers and count 40 times in a 15 sec block. This will give you approx. 160RPM and the correct sound for your cylinders.

Hi Bill I've turned down the adjuster as low as it will go? I may have to grind down some the end of the screw or maybe it's the wrong one that came with the machine. You can see it if you look at some of the other photos on the topic.
The only other way to affected the speed is to slide the wieghts and brass disc to the right abit but I'm almost at the end of the shaft.

Bill I fixed the speed control by turning the screw up side down or is that right side up? Not sure. but it sure works now. The nurel part that you turn is now between the motor board and the bed plate and is just as easy to reach.

Kevan,
I looked at the last pic you posted regarding your cleaned motor and the speed control screw was installed properly. If you switched it around and it works ok, hey, what ever works!!

I got a new carriage arm for my standard B today. It has some of the shaver attachment but it is missing the side mount lift lever. Is this an older type of lever I can't seem to find a picture of it anyware. Here is some Pics of mine.

Kevan, This is a pic from one of my early HOME As but is the same type of lift lever used your new acquired STANDARD carriage arm. This type of carriage arm however would not be found on STANDARD Bs normally. Yours would/should have the normal push/pull lift lever. Bill
