You're describing the Duncan Automatic Stop, a device that was fitted to some of the C-250s in 1917 and 1918. There should be a solenoid mounted beneath the turntable where the brake is normally found. At the top end of the wire was a small metal plug which fit into a small hole in the back of the reproducer, just below the hinge block. The reproducer was specially built so that after the record was finished and the reproducer continued being driven toward the center of the record, and the stylus continued to ride the inner groove, eventually the limit loop would come into contact with the pin - closing the circuit, activating the solenoid, and tripping the brake. They work reasonably well.
