My Edison Fireside Model B has one small imperfection. When I got a Diamond B reproducer the pot metel was swollen a bit too much to fit properly in the carriage. I filed off enough to make it fit and it mostly plays great. About one out of every four cylinders, towards the end of the song the reproducer begins to lift slightly out of the carriage and I have to push it back down. It would seem that I filed off a little bit too much. Is there any ideas on what I can do to make it fit a little snugger?
It is not that big of a deal, and I can live with it, but...if anything can keep me from getting up every now and then and pushing it back in to hear the end of the song that would be great.
Thanks

Are you securing the reproducer with the Thumbscrew? The carriage should have a notch to center the reproducer and the thumbscrew on the side should secure it. I have never ran into this problem with the reproducer being too tight or loose but have noticed that if the cylinder is out of round it will cause it to blur the music by moving up and down . Also what type of horn do you have? If it is a Morning Glory you may need to adjust your crane and if it a cygnet type you may have to loosen the tension on the spring.

Hello everyone! Just an update on this problem I was having. I examined the thumb screw that secures the reproducer and realized that it was not actually the correct length. I bought the correct one from Croaking Frog on Ebay for $5 and it completely fixed the problem. The one that was in there was the right diameter but no long enough. I just played 3 or 4 cylinders that would previously pull the reproducer up the most at the end of the cylinder, and they played all the way through without a problem. Ha, just goes to show that sometimes the problem is simpler than you think. I have also ordered a Victor reproducer for my Academy to replace the one that the pot metal was cracking on, so hopefully in another week I'll be able to say that all of my phonographs are running properly and sound great.
Thanks all for your advise.
Eric

Gotta hate that 'Pot Metal'. I think that this is one of the inventor's biggest pitfalls.
