I just responded to a posting on another board, and thought it appropriate to re-post on the subject here. So far, data from about sixty Amberola 1As and about 25 Amberola 1Bs has been submitted.
MY THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE RESPONDED!
It soon became obvious that I had not asked enough questions to elicit reliable and consistent patterns of characteristics. If anyone here has not yet responded to my initial query, it's not too late. here is the entire list of questions:
1) Type (1A or 1B) and serial number (for tracking purposes):
2) Lid type (smooth sides or stepped sides):
3) Upper columns (plain or carved):
4) Grille Type (lyre or 1st Rococo[transitional] or 2nd Rococo[urn]):
5) Do drawer interiors have clips or wooden dividers?
6) Number of vents/louvers on the side of your cabinet:
7) Does your cabinet have cloven hooves as front feet?
8) Is your interior grille (behind the mechanism) 1-piece or 2-piece?
9) Design of interior grille (rectangular lattice or curlycue)?
10) What is the height of your cabinet? (Please note if height is without casters):
11) Are the record drawer fronts separated from each other by trim, or do they virtually touch each other?
12)Is there a cabinet number stamped anywhere? Particularly under the horn?
13) Are there blue ink, pencil, or chalk markings inside the cabinet or on the backs of the drawers?
14) Are the drawer backs finished?
15) Finally, does the lock take a flat key? Is there a lock code stamped on the lock?
I realize that I'm imposing, and please know that I appreciate your assistance. PM me your name for the acknowledgments, and let me know if you prefer anonymity.
Best regards,
George Paul
