Hello all.
I want to add a cygnet horn/crane to an Edison Standard "D". Since this is original cabinet finish I don't want to make a mistake.
Obviously there is the need to center the crane on the mandrel. What about it's vertical position? Is this critical?
Thanks, Scott

Scott,
The top outside edges of the cygnet bracket should be approx. one inch below the UPPER surface of the wooden frame that supports the bedplate. When installing the bracket, use a level to be sure the machine is sitting on a perfectly horizontal surface. (Are all the rubber feet the same height?) Mark one of the upper bracket holes to be drilled, and do so. Position the bracket with a bolt through the hole you just drilled, and tighten a nut to it: snug but not too tight. Place the lower half of the crane in the bracket, use your level to position it perfectly vertical, and mark a hole on the opposite side from which you've already drilled. You can take it from there, I think! Good luck - it's easier than it sounds...

Scott,
With the case laying on the front panel, center the bracket between the mandrel and then have the nickeled lower ring approx. 1 inch above the bedplate. That should be good for both horizontal & vertical locations.

Thanks to you both.
I can't believe I have never done this before. Hopefully I will be an expert after the weekend!

George/Bill,
Do the specs given apply to Edison Standard only? I would also like to add a cygnet bracket to a Triumph model "D" as well.
Since the cygnet horn dimension is constant the only other variable is the distance from the bedplate to the top of the reproducer. Guess a simple measurement could answer this question too......
Thanks again, Scott

Scott,
The cygnet crane for the "Triumph" varies in dimension from the "Standard"/"Home" model. The bracket would be mounted the same way.

I would find an original factory mount and copy that. Nothing worse than seeing a bogus cygnet mounting job! Someone here should have an original cygnet standard to get true measurements??

Not all of these brackets were factory mounted, Andersun. Many machines were upgraded at home when the new Cygnet horn came out in late 1909. Full instructions were given to install these brackets and horns and I'm sure you may find variations even with the factory mounted versions. Bill

Thanks for the link. I didn't get to adding the back brackets this weekend so this gives me a chance to review Dwayne's document.
