William, Try Wyatt's www.wyattsmusical.com/I purchased a bushing for a triumph from him a few years back as well as other parts. He is very helpful and will take the time to answer your questions. Brad

Once you install the brushing, how in heck do you get the mandrel to spin freely?

Hi Frank. Reiss talks about using a little abrasive like auto body polish coated around the mandrel shaft to polish up the bushing. (Be careful not do too much.) Then clean all of the abrasive out & reinstall shaft using light oil. You might have to do it more than once. Friction on the mandrel shaft end (or pintel) bearing can also be a source of drag, so make sure that bearing is clean, adjusted & oiled as well. Good luck! Martin

I just bought a bushing from Wyatts for a Standard D and it was $9.50 including S/H. They're all a little snug at first. My technique is to wrap a strip of #1500 sandpaper around a wood dowel that is slightly smaller in diameter than the bearing hole, put the dowel in an electric drill and use that to carefully ream the inside hole. I took a punch, wrapped some 400 grit sandpaper around it, and reamed out the brushing. A little oil later and they spin well. Now I have to get the shaft ends spinning freely and try to get the belts to cooperate.
