Hello! I've discovered the front door knobs on my Schubert aren't correct. Can anyone tell me if the originals were like any of the other Edison models? A picture would help too. Thanks! Bob

I corresponded with a guy (can't remember his name now, but his Schubert is the one pictured in the Fabrizio/Paul book) several years ago about this very issue - he has a Schubert with original knobs - said they are all wood, and unlike any on other Edison machines.
My Schubert knobs were gone when I got the machine - I have Victor knobs on it - looks fine.

Thanks, Matt: I looked up the picture you mentioned. It's on page 241 of "The Talking Machine:An Illustrated Compendium," edition 2. The knobs look more metallic to me from what I can see. Maybe someone else has a machine who can chime in? My machine has wood knobs, they are clearly too large. They nearly touch each other when the doors are closed! Thanks again Bob

The Edisonic knobs are wood. Here's a picture of them. Sorry about the lighting in the picture. Unfortunately it's a cloudy day & the flash doesn't work when using the closeup setting.

Thanks for the picture! It may take some doing to find a replica in wood, but it's something for me to look for. Thanks again. Bob B.

Yes - thanks, Sharon! My Schubert - awaiting restoration - currently has nice porcelain knobs - yuk.

My Schubert knobs were gone when I got the machine - I have Victor knobs on it - looks fine. Matt Most Schuberts that I have seen were fitted with the wood knobs pictured in this thread. These knobs were also used onn several of the "New Edison" long-playing consoles. In fact, the Schubert snares many molding profiles and construction features with the "New Edison" cabinets. I have, however, seen three undoubtedly original machines with metal knobs, two with the gunmetal finished knobs found on the BC-34 ("Baby Console") and one, evidently VERY late machine fitted with the nickle -plated knobs generally found on the London Console. This late machine was unusual in other ways. The reproducer and all metal furniture was nickle-plated, as was the Edison lateral adapter, which was fitted with the nickled-brass "E" Edison needle-cut sound box, and the motor surround was drilled and fitted with nickle-plated needle cups.

I just noticed that my Sparton 301 radio is fitted with the same wood knobs as are commonly found on the Schubert. I suspect that these are the same knobs used on other Sparton sets of the 1929 season, if so, I should have spares.
