I was wondering if anyone has a line on where I could buy a Model B reproducer for my Edison Standard A phonograph? I have a C reproducer, but would like to find a "B" in order to play some brown wax cylinders. Thanks!

It seems that some believe that the original brown wax cylinders have hardened ( the oils have evaporated in the wax) enough over the years and can be played safely with the heavier Mod. C Reproducer. Allen Koenigsberg mentions this on page xxiii in the introduction of his volume "Edison Cylinder Records 1889-1912." I have played my brown wax with a Mod. C to generate a bit more volume with no noticeable damage to the Record, but I still use a B as a rule. They do show up frequently on eBay and seem to be in the $150.00 and up category.

I too have played my brown wax cylinders with the "C" reproducer, and so far haven't seen any evidence of damage. Recently I read how you should "Never" play them unless using a "B" reproducer. Feeling that it probably was a good idea to not chance damaging these 100+ year old artifacts, I started to search for the proper reproducer. So far, I haven't found one on Ebay, or anywhere else for that matter.

Here is one that just ended and didn't sell. Perhaps you can contact the seller and work something out. Bill Mod. B Reproducer

Actually I just found one. Not bad, $115 plus shipping.

A very fair price. Rebuilt, they sound good with the ball stylus.
