Hi William. There are two schools of thought of what is best. Everybody that has it recommends Kotton Klenser. Their website is www.kottonklenser.comI have also used regular GoJo hand cleaner (the stuff in the tub, not the ones with abrasive). It is available in auto supply stores. I apply that with paper towels and use a little elbow grease. In extreme cases I use a little 0000 steel wool. I try wipe all of it off as I go. Be very careful when working on the decal area; it doesn't take much to go from "cleaner than it was" to "what decal?". It will soften the finish (as will the Kotton Klenser), so be careful there, too. Both of these products can take off a finish. If you find the finish is sticky, set it aside for a few days to cure. (One Victrola I did took more than a week.) After that I apply a coat of Howard's Feed 'N Wax. There are some finishes that will come right off. Be especially cautious with some of the early wax finishes. Try it in an area that doesn't show too much. In every case, if it appears you are going too far, stop right away and take a break. I think the Homes were mostly shellac, so it should clean up pretty well this way. I hasten to point out that there are those who would absolutely never use GoJo. My results were OK, but I'm sure that the Kotton Klenser is a better formula for the job. Good luck with your Home D! Martin

I'm in the Kotton Klenser camp myself. I apply using one of the cheap china bristle paint brushes. After a few minutes I use the brush a little more aggressively to losen the disolved wax and grime.
I fully agree with the remainder of Martin's advice.
It is amazing how nice these things clean up with just a little effort.
Be sure and take before and after pictures.
Good luck
