We are referring to the potmetal bearing (bushing) that the mandrel shaft passes through. It is not found on any model Triumph, Home or Standard or any other model which is equipped with an endgate. It is also not found on Gems, Firesides and Amberolas except for Amberola models IV and VIII. If this bearing is present it is pressed into the support post at the left end of the mandrel and the mandrel shaft passes through it and is supported by it. The upper works of these machines is so designed that the mandrel and shaft assembly can only be removed by pulling it to the right which can be extremely difficult when this potmetal bearing has swollen and siezed.

Michael I think the bushing they are talking about is on the later models....(D) Without an end gate. I may be wrong but Edison did not use much pot metel till the last few year of production. I also think that machines with an end gate has a brass bushing that lasts for years unless abused. Ooops sorry phonojim I see you covered this story. Kevan

Michael it is not present in your Edison home A or B so you will not find it. If it were there it would be in the Cast Metal were your feed screw ends and the mandrel starts on a Edison Home A. Kevan

The bushing that is not on the A or B homes
All joking aside, only the gateless machines used a bushing to support the mandrel. Model C and later machines use this pesky part.
