Thanks to the help on this board, I know I have a reproducer that needs a new stylus. What is the best way to remover the reproducer from an Amberol 30? I have removed the two screws but nothing happens. What do I do next? I don't want to mess anything up, so I have stopped there. Thanks in advance for your help.

Is yours black or nickel plated? Odds are it's potmetal and has swollen into place. Can you disconnect the horn from it?

I can only get the horn to slip so far and that's it. I can't get it to slip out all the way. I think the reproducer is potmetal. Is there any way to remove it without damaging it?

If you can remove the carriage rod, remove the rod carefully. Remove the mandrel as well. Then, see if you can pull the carriage with the reproducer off of the horn. Again, exercise caution and restraint. A little oil on the horn/reproducer connection should help get it out.

I can't get the carriage rod to budge. So I think I will find someone who know what they're doing to take a look at it. Thanks for your help though.

I presume you unscrewed the one end of the rod to allow it to move? A wooden dowel can help push the rod out.

Yes, the screw is completely removed and I tried using a needle punch. No luck. I'm afraid of forcing it, so that'w why I stopped.

Do you have any penetrating oil? Try some of that on the rod posts.

"IF" you could only get the carriage rod out, then you could put the carriage & reproducer in the freezer overnight. It sounds wild, but many collectors highly recommend doing this to remove pot metal reproducer that a jammed in the carriage. I have never had to do this myself, but apparently it will pop straight out because of the different contractions of the metals. In all honesty, I'd be trying to remove the carriage to do this, as the pot metal could easily break trying to force it out. If you were able to try the freezer trick, once the reproducer was out of the carriage, I'd leave working on the reproducer for 24 hours, so any condensation on the diaphragm could dry off completely.
