I have followed this eBayer's auctions and have always been amazed at his realized sales. Are ppl that fooled by his write-ups or is there skulduggery involved?

I wanted to ask you what I was missing but did not want to pronounce my ignorance. I do not have that type of disposable income---but if I did,in my limited opinion,it is not worth the price. But remember, Bill, this is Ebay, and an auction is an auction. To me, you cannot figure them out. Thanks again! Michael

This person is near me (Chapel Hill to Raleigh is not far) and I've been rather tempted to go see some of these offerings up close and personal. How he is getting over a grand for his standards and homes is really beyond me as well. Mike says it well, some people just can't be figured out.

I think this is just a case of really good marketing. There are always people out there that have extra money for appealing things. This seller utilizes several things that seem to elevate what he is selling. Notice the beautiful photography in his photos. (If you've ever tried to take a really nice photo of your machine, you'll admit it's not always an easy thing.) The machine is not all that rare, but it's in extremely good shape. The hyperbole about it being "museum quality" is over the top perhaps, but it does point up that this machine has been well cared-for. In general his writing is clear and persuasive.
Is the price high? If you happen to be a mega-bucks collector who has a space for it in their collection, it might not be so out of line. That kind of money is way out of my league. I usually look for machines that have defects that I can fix. (Theoretically, I can get a good deal that way.) I really do think the seller has developed a group of deep-pocket customers and we see the results on ebay. (On the other hand, I find it a bit odd that the winning bidder's bid history shows 66% of his/her bids are with this seller while everybody else is much lower.)
In any case, I'll try to remember some of those lessons next time I try to sell anything on ebay. Cheers to you all.
Martin

It's all fake bidding. That has to cost him a fortune in ebay fees if he doesn't find a way to cancel the sales.
