Hi, Gold leaf is not hard to do but you must be very careful-it looks like the sizing that you used got past the areas of the ribs. To control this I use a product called " Fritzcit" which can be purchased at art supply stores. You can buy it in sheets or in liquid form and it will keep the sizing from going where you do not want it to go. An easier route is to purchase water based gold leaf paint or bronzing powder mixed with varnish. It is easier to fix the water based paint you just wash it off-before it drys and try again. With bronzing you need to use turps to get it off. Once done follow with a light coat of Deft semi gloss-and then if you want gloss of the same peoduct. You can do the same with bronzing powder though it takes more practice-but will give you more of a gold leaf look if that is what you are after. If you want to ''age "the gold tone use sepa tempa paint after the sealer of deft, apply wipe down carefully and when dry deft again with semi-gloss and then gloss if you wish. Abe
