Hey folks,
Does anyone have a recommended procedure for removing the pivot pin and stylus bars on DD reproducers?
Just wondering about tips to make this easier. Thanks.

Hey folks, Does anyone have a recommended procedure for removing the pivot pin and stylus bars on DD reproducers? Just wondering about tips to make this easier. Thanks. John Veeeeeery carefully! But seriously, I put a daub of liquid wrench on each of the protruding ends of the stylus bar pin and let it soak in by capillary action for a while. I duct tape the weight to the sound cup, putting the tape up to the "ears" on either side of the pivot pin. This immobilizes the weight and also protects the finish from being scratched. Many times if you look at the ends of the pivot pin with a loupe, you will see that one end appears rounded and the other sheared off as if it was done with nippers( This isn't always so, especially on the early ones). The rounded end is the one I want to push against. I then use a .030 drift punch and push the rounded end out enough on the other side so that I can now grab the protruding bar with a small jeweler's smooth jawed pliers that I have glued strips of brass to each inside jaw so it doesn't mar the pin or put burrs on it. When you remove the two screws at the swivel and remove the tape and then the weight, the stylus and link can be carefully threaded through the hole in the weight. Sometimes the link slips easily off the hook at the end of the stylus and other times you may have to carefully open the slot to remove the end of the link. If you feel uncomfortable doing any of this, feel free to PM me and I can give you my addy, and if you wish, you can send it to me and I'll rebuild it for you. Bill
