Just brought home a fairly beautiful Edsion A 100. It is very dirty, been in an attic since the 1960s, and the main spring is broken or something, gonna have to fix that, but it seems everything else is in good working order. Bought off Craigslist for $75. Has a decal on the lid for: Frank J Hart, Southern California Music Company, Los Angeles Very happy! CDB Attachments:

The serial number for this machine is SM 18325. Any way to determine the date of manufacture for this machine? Thanks! Attachments:

Unfortunately, the whereabouts of any records concerning date of mfg. are not currently known and may even have been destroyed at some point many years ago. Your machine was introduced in late 1915 according to Frow. Does your machine have the mute ball or a damper on the Reproducer?

Finally got the spring replaced, oiled and greased the motor, spruced up the appearance, and it now plays and looks great! You can view a video on YouTube and watch it play: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBXAHWAXn34Had to borrow a reproducer from another machine, the original nickel plated one for this machine is off being rebuilt. A question has been raised regarding the light color of the flower 'buttons' on the grill. It looks original. I think it is, because the picture in the Frow book shows (in black and white) the buttons to be a lighter color than the rest of the wood. Problem is, modern pictures of other A100 grills do not show the color difference. Is this original to the grill? Were all A100 like this originally? Only a few? Are there any other A100 grills with this color buttons today? Thanks! Cliff Attachments:

These could be replacements as one or more were often lost, from the examples I've seen. The old glue that was used to affix them has long lost it's hold and I believe they also had a small nail in the center. I would think that on an oak machine, they would have a darker stain than what is presented.

Just got a good working nickel plated Edison reproducer for my A-100. Also found a nickel plated Oro-Phone Military 90 adaptor for the Diamond Disc player. It works great! Check out the video on YouTube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAErLTzFZDgThe adaptor starts at about 3:36 on the video. Enjoy!

Shouldn't there be a wooden frame around the motor plate?

Shouldn't there be a wooden frame around the motor plate? BillS The A-100 was like the H-19 & B-19. No framework around the motor board. You might be thinking of the A-150. BillF

I see.
Never having looked at an A-100 personally, I was making an assumption; Frow does not mention the lack of a frame except on the H-19...

Strange coincidence that discussiion should turn to comparison of the A-100 with the H-19 as I just brought home one of each yesterday. The new A-100 has the mahogany finish and the H-19 has the later style fleur-de-lis grill.
