Hi, Lucius. Thanks for the welcome.
I'll post more details in a discussion thread, but will tell you that both of our units are mahogany.
As to cleaning, my wife went over the exterior and some interior surfaces with Murphy's Oil Soap. I did some cleaning around the mechanical parts, then added oil to the cup and other locations marked. I found an owner's manual online, so that helped a lot. Both played fine when we got them, but the second one had a fair amount of mechanical noise that calmed completely after I added oil and grease.
Both styli seem to be OK from visual examination and observing the track on the center portion of a record.
It was great finding this discussion board, but I'm going blind reading so much information!!!!! ;-)

Hello Lucius..and thanks. I've always loved cylinder machines and also diamond disk phonos. I have a 4 clip standard now.(just bought it on Ebay..still awaiting delivery) Have has several Gems and a Triumph (should never have sold it) in the past..we're talking 30 years ago. I still have my cylinders though so I'm happy to get back into the wonderful world of Edison machines..PS I also have a model T..perhaps I was born in the wrong generation. Bedplate

Hello everyone,
My name is Fran and I love old phonographs! I have a very small collection, but the star is my Home model B, a longtime family heirloom, I am the third generation to enjoy it. I've owned it for almost 30 years, and have been very nervous about playing it, until last year, when my love for it and other phonos, started to grow.
I will be spending a considerable amount of time learning all about it and others like it.
Thank you for having me! Happy Holidays, Fran

Hey Fran! I'm new too, I'm so glad your not nervous any more playing your machine. Actually, it seems to be so much more since it is an heirloom. Knowing its history is so awesome. Lots of these machines have stories to tell that we'll never know. Myself I try to think what the very first owner thought when it was used for the first time. Happy holidays to you too.. Chris (oh.. and Welcome!)

I'm new too. Just got started after I found some cylinders for a really good price and sold half, then I started looking for a machine to play the rest on. Got really interested and read up a bunch. I found a c-19 in very good shape the other day and just had to have it. Now I have many cylinders, but now looking for diamond discs, lol.

Welcome to the forums. I own six Edison cylinder machines myself, and, some diamond disc machines, also. I just completed replacing missing parts on my oldest project, my Edison model A150 Diamond Disc machine. I bought it when a teen ager in about 1967. It was a life long project resurrecting this one, and, it's now nearly finished. Bill Cahill

Hi:
I just sold my Edison diamond disc player and bought an Amberola 30 machine with 54 cylinders. I have a list of what I have and also an instruction manual for the Amberola 30 machine. If anyone is interested I can send out both here.

Welcome!
An Amberola 30 is a good way to start a collection: that was my first machine, over 40 years ago…

darlinbonchek: Welcome to the board! There are some online record auctions that you can check out: www.78rpm.com/www.thoseoldrecords.com/Alternatively, you can check out your local craigslist: check keywords like "Edison", "phonograph" or "records", and you might find some offers. BTW: what model Edison do you have? BillS
