Lucius1958 I have a Edison model E thanks. Darlin Is it a 'Gem', 'Standard', 'Home' or 'Triumph'? Except for the 'Gem', all of them should be able to handle 2 minute cylinders as well (with the proper reproducer). BillS

Hello. I am happy to have found this board. Today I was fortunate in finding an Edison model C-19 at an estate sale. The sale had already gone into it half price, everything must go mode, and I managed to get a few more dollars knocked off even then. So I was pretty happy. The machine was in excellent working order. I did not play a record to check out the stylus--as I did not want to risk it. I am happy to see they are easy to test and readily available. The cabinet is a little shopworn but not bad really, for its age. The records are in excellent condition, as is the stacking area.
We have a similar model at our cabin, which has come down through the family. My grandfather purchased it before they had electricity up there, which happened when I was in about 2nd grade, so I remember it also,as the main form of musical entertainment. Whoever said the records were happy ones was right. "The Whistler and His Dog" is one I still remember. (For some ridiculous reason, my mother cut the thing in half and made a table for the games at the cabin. In that model, the records were in drawers, which were put in a closet with the top half of the machine. She lined the cabinet with "Naugahyde" which, though an otherwise sensible woman she seemed to have a weakness for--in this case it was lizard-skin green. What could have possessed her to commit this travesty I have no idea, although she did refinish it and put a nice table top on it.)
I saw a similar model in prime shape selling for $900. However, my goal is not to sell it. I have a house filled with dark, clunky antique furniture and it will fit right in. However, I have not had to do much restoration, especially of something that has antique wheels. I would really like a step by step guide to restoring your Edison. Please tell me someone has written one. If not, what is the next best thing?
Thanks for your help!

drkeek, welcome to the forum and congratulations to your C-19. I think the closest to your step by step guide is the book "The Compleat Talking Machine" by Eric Reiss. It is readily available from Amazon and others.
Good luck Andreas

I have just joined and need a few tips as to where to and how to post comments and questions?
I watched almost every minute of the recent Lawrence A. Schlick auction and wrote down in my catalogue the final selling price of almost every single object. I did miss a few in the middle and am looking for a source in which to access and complete the final prices of the auction.
Thanks for anyone who may have this source.
I also will have a table at the Antique Phonograph Show in Buena Park (Aug. 9/10) and am selling much of my collection of phonographs, record discs and cylinders.
Kind regards, Lyn Levens-(retired teacher, coach, and basketball referee.)

oops- I'm so new I posted twice. Sorry bout that.
I have just sold 10 phonos in the last month and have a few more. Anybody around the Los Angeles area interested?
I have a huge collection of WWI cylinders and wonder if there is a college, high school, or history buff that would be interested? They all play just fine and for most of them I have the colorful sheet music with the lyrics that match the songs.

Hello, Name is Heidi and I live in central Florida. I have a 1950s and up record player collection and love my machines. An Edison C250 came to one of the auctions that I like to go to and I was high bidder at $150 so I bought it. I now have no idea how to take care of this beast and can't find anyone in the area to help me so this forum is appreciated. I have about ten diamond discs and listening to them on that machine is pleasurable time travel. I love it. It needs help though so I posted that part already. Would love to listen to it more but don't know what's making the noise so I have to leave it sitting pretty in the corner. .. and boy, does it sit pretty. Lucky for me, my husband shares my passions so it's no big deal to have a new addition to our living room. In fact, I think he's more excited than I am. We already put new fabric on the front (even though it's very far from original specs we chose it because it was beautiful to us and matches our house and we're never going to resell. Below is the photo of just the fabric before wood upkeep. I'll have to follow forum discussion on the best way to do that. Anyways, just wanted to say Hi and thank you for having a group.

Hi everyone,
My name is Mary and I have just inherited a large number of Edison Phonographs and have (more than) a few questions regarding the machines I have - I will detail these in later posts, but I am most in need of assistance in matching the correct horns with the machines my grandfather did not have set up.
I am fairly sure all of them have been restored to proper working order, as I have memories of helping him do this when I was a kid. He was a perfectionist and I would be very surprised if any were not in working order.
In total I have 14 phonographs (10 Edisons)and 500-1000 cylinders, a few hundred 78s, plus a large amount of ephemera such as 20-30 tins of needles, some ads, etc. I even have a few working toy phonographs.
Thanks for reading and I hope that you all will enjoy seeing my grandfather's collection in future posts, which I know he was very proud of.

Relative newbie here, with a just-resored 1915 Amberola 50 and (in another week) a nicely-maintained Standard A. Just sayin' hi!
