Hello Everyone, I recently received an edison standard with an aluminum horn. I know nothing about this type of horn or if it is original or later. It seems to be in pretty good shape considering how soft the metal is. Also it seem older because of all the oxidation and small dings. Would love any info on this unique horn. measures 14L x 7.5 Dia. Thanks What you have there is a Columbia horn. Edison used either japanned tin, all brass or black and brass horns on their earlier machines (depending on the model and period). While this horn is pretty much contemporary with your Standard, it would be more appropriate on a Graphophone than a Phonograph. You could always trade with someone who has an Edison horn. Bill

Good morning from Germany hello folks.... my name is Georg(e). I live in the german Ramstein area. Many of you might know where this is; eventually being there as a airforce- or an army-member. I am glad that I found this Discussion-Board on the WWW because I got to be a proud owner of an 1905 EDISON HOME which was made in 04/1905 - as the serial says around April 13th +/-. This is what helpful colleagues just as Norman Bruderhofer which is a good friend of mine and others told me. I had to rely on them in these things ;-) Me personally...... I am a total noob in phonographical things *lol*. I got my machine 4 weeks ago with and also a lot of 15 pc. 2-minute-cylinders. So far so good. BUT........ at the delivery - under my eyes!!! - the D*L-man let it fall off and it slammed on the ground. That was the moment when I got my definite heart-attack! Under my eyes....... imagine this. I am not a rich man and had to save a lot of money for a long time because phonographs are damned expensive in Germany...... and this jackass dropped it on the ground! He loughed a little and said "oooppssss...., but there is good insurance on your packet....". I told him what´s inside and he looked a little bit stupid, crawled into his truck and went off. Short from here: since that time I got several problems with that machine. I will feel free to post them here in the different places and would be glad if somebody could help me getting "my old Grandpa" running again like a young deer I apologize my not so good english, but I am sure that - nearly - everybody can understand what I mean ;D Under this writing a pic of my EDISON HOME Greets Georg(e) Attachments:

Georg, nice to have you on board. Yes, do go ahead and describe your problems with the Edison Home phono; this forum is peopled with many who own cylinder players.
Hello Scott, nice to have you on board too. I haven't dealt with Collectors West, but I've never seen any complaints registered on-line either.

Once you make your purchase, Scott, and give the machine a whirl, let us know on here. We'll take an interest, no matter who else in your life doesn't (family usually doesn't, unless your married to a collector).

Hi Timo, go ahead and ask your questions--sounds like you already have a good sampling of cylinders.

Hello Ralph, one question is can i play Columbia or Pathe black wax cylinders with an Edison model C reproducer, or is the wax too soft? I saw on the Talking machine forum that Columbia black wax cylinders have the same formula as brown wax cylinders, so model C reproducers will wear them out fast. Is this with all non Edison black wax cylinders? . Timo
