Now that I think about it, it does take two to have an argument and it appears the moderator revels in the attention as much as the disturber. So in that case its not about to stop. Agree. This is a pattern we've seen before on the OTVMMB. While I appreciate Dan's willingness to moderate the forum, he does seem to invite and sometimes instigate the nuisance posts.

Well, I just hope, that whatever is happening on the OTVMMB, does NOT spread over to this board. I joined this board, so that I could learn more, about Edison phonograph's, and meet other people who share my interest in Edison, and other Phonographs as well. Maybe Dan, might want to consider adding another Moderator, to monitor the board, when he is unavailable. One of the Senior members, could help out, and assist Dan, in Moderating the board. Just a suggestion.

As moderator of several other types of groups I think if it were me I would just have sent a note to an offending member then if it continued pull their plug... If you get into those back and forth name calling contest then thats what you attract.. Just removing it before it gets to far is better. Some groups have a statement they send out about every three months that say no personal attacks will be tolerated and offenders will be removed.. It however does seem that on that particular site there are a number of defenders of the anything goes format, so I guess you either have to not read them, or come elsewhere. I choose something in between. I appreciate this site for its calmness and friendly members.

Yes Paul. This seems to be the starting price for this guy's electric DD's. It's not always the starting price, actually. He ran a bunch of classical DD auctions recently with $9.99 starting bids. The discs were in MINT condition, too, far, far rarer than electric dance band stuff (hey, how often to you see the complete four disc set of The New York Trio playing Schubert's Trio #1 in B Flat Major from 1928?) The $49.99 price seems to start with the dance band stuff...and I'll say it again, all it takes are two idiot bidders with deep pockets to drive those prices up, no? I should know, I drove the price up on the Schubert Trio set and won it, for less than $25 per disc - a bargain at that price. Sean

Maybe Dan, might want to consider adding another Moderator, to monitor the board, when he is unavailable. One of the Senior members, could help out, and assist Dan, in Moderating the board. Just a suggestion. Paul, your point (and others made) are very good with regard to moderating, but Dan isn't moderating - he's ADDING to the chaos. I don't think he's interested in moderating anything that upsets anybody but him. He deleted my request for proof of having several copies of "Kansas City Kitty" and now claims to have found another. I don't believe him. I've never seen that record - less than 200 were probably produced, is it too much to ask for a picture of them all lined up with Dan's record duster cat in the background? No. He'll just delete my question. He's done it before when he's called to the floor on the "facts". I don't know why either, but he does. I'm at the point where I may pull the plug on myself at the OTVMMB. It's getting more and more difficult to weed thru the BS posts without getting angry. Really angry, actually. The "guest" posts supposedly by Chantez were NOT by him, but another person logging in as a guest and picking up where it left off. Dan can very easily find out who it is, but has chosen instead to continue to accuse Chantez of making those posts. I'll say no more, folks, it is not Chantez making those "guest" posts. I have an opinion on who might be doing it, but "he" isn't allowed to be on this board... ;D Think about it! Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I know most of you probably understand my frustration, especially when the hobby side of all of this gets buried in murky, nasty and mean accusations and name calling! Sean,
I would be most interested to see what condtion that trio is in when you get it.. I also bid on it but didn't think I wanted to spend that kind of bucks, although I did offer what I thought was quite a bit.. Actually I just got a nice copy of that piece for 50 cents on an lp. Not the question here though. I also have the early orthophonic set of it. But still as you say, untill those ran, I didn't even know edison ever bothered to produce those kinds of complete pieces... I only hope the surface isn't a distraction. That was really my main concern in not bidding higher.. I have allready paid too much for records that too me are basically unlistenable due to the surface noise. I don't know if that is just poor quality surface or due to miss-use.

Larry,
I'll let you know real soon! I'm getting that and one of the other sets on Friday. The seller passes thru my town every week on his way back north from wherever he works during the week and he's going to drop them off to me. They certainly look nice enough and most DDs at that late point in production that I have seen and heard have nice quiet surfaces.

I'm in agreement with Sean on there being another "poster" other than Chantez. His post style is entirely different from this asshat that has been posting his nonsense. As far as the "mystery poster," WOOF!" If you go to page 415 of Ron D's BA recordings, vol.2, he has a reprint of a Blue Amberol Stock Card for 5716, and as of 7/6/29, there were 102 in stock. Out of those, you wonder how many went into the big BA bonfire that they held after the doors closed for the phono dept!!!

Thanks for the number Bill. Sheesh imagine that - all those hot BAs thrown into a hot fire!
Seriously, were they burned? I seem to remember hearing that a bunch of stuff was just dumped into the river.

I could be a real bee's turd on the OTVMMB... all the archived Phono Spotlight posts belong to me... I wonder how long it would take me to delete every one of them just for spite? Who is Chantez? (I know that name is all over the OTVMMB and it's an eBay seller) but who is the person? oh, and LN got religion today... sonoraman.proboards107.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1180525479(somehow it just doesn't make up for all the meaningless posts)

Sean,
On pg 418-419 of the same volume, there is a letter dated 10/22/29 from Ralph Allen concering the disposal of existing stock of phonos & records, and in one of the paragraphs it reads, "Burn all records in stock, including 212,566 not carried in inventory, thus releasing 600 packing cases which may be salvaged thru disc record sales at $.90 cents each." Ron has a footnote saying the records were in fact burned, but some working moulds survived. What a crying shame!!!!!!!!!!!

Chantez is Steve Flynn. He isn't a record collector per se, but he has had the chance to buy out a couple of private collections of old time collectors (one as it turns out, less than a MILE from my house a few years ago!!! ) Anyway, he's been selling his Edison stuff that was basically saved from being dumped on ebay and getting lots of bucks for it. Okay Sean, thank you for the information. Wow, I certainly learn a lot of what's going on, on the other board. I take it, some of you guys, spend quite a bit of time on the OTVMMB?
I really glad, I strated this thread. It's given a lot of people, a chance to express there concerns, feelings and opinions, or whatever is on their mind.
