great job! i also have an S-19, i put red felt on the turntable and also for the grill cloth and i also used RESTORE A FINISH (mahogany) and some a lint free cloth and gave it an all over coating. it turned out great, im not going to restore the cabinet as it has nicks and dings in it that are part of its history, i think it looks pretty swell that way. you can visit my youtube account AGESAGOMUSIC08 and see my player and some of my collection that i post as time permits me to do so.. thanks and again great job !! i also have a similar s 19 with the cabinet base has been cut off, its a darker mahogany, as soon as i get the monies I know a freind of mine who has a B 19 chalet in great condition, i want to get that as my next project.

Hey if you have not done so, see a great friend of mine, DON GFELL, he makes wood horns for phonographs, but hes mainly into anything edison, he has diamond disc machines and a shop in MILAN OHIO, he has ANYTHING you could want for your phonograph (he has DD machines, cylinder players of all kinds! He has been in the buisness for nearly 40 years! he has DD and 2 min and 4 min wax cylinders and Blue amberols, he has lots of diamond discs, I visit him at least once a month to share my diamond disc collection with him. when you call tell him Neill said to give you a call. Hes a very charming person and knows his buisness! i buy from him most of the time when i go and see him! His shop is exciting to be in. I was like a kid in a candy store the first time i was in there a couple years ago...LOL Dons number is 419 499 3093. his email is edisonman1@aol.com hope that helps in your search! ( i live in findlay and he is like an hour and a half from me) but well worth the trips to go there once in a while...) you will be amazed

i have a dozen or so red starred DDs in my collection and i find them rather facsinating tunes to listen to...One that i cant believe is a red star is BILLY JONES TUNE IN ON LOVE...still cant figure out why edison red starred a Billy Jones record? thats odd to me because he was one of edison most favorite performers. (flipside is in NINENTEEN NINTEY NINE by AL BERNARD)

unfortunatley i dont think anything has been seen to do that yet. for repairing edge chips to some DDs, i use a small amount of nailpolish to and very gently appoly it to the edge chipped area, being careful not to get into the grooves of the record. a couple of light dabbings is sufficient and allow it to dry a couple hours. however, i always try to make sure that i lower the reproducer on the groove part of the record very slowly, the only thing the polish does is prevent your record chips from getting any worse. handle and store them with care and you should be ok. if you set the reproducer in the first couple of grooves, the stylus should play on the record and not track into the worn area on the record leadout. this happens because when you put the reproducer on the edge of the record, (leadin) there is no groove for the stylus to get ahold of to make the weight stay stable on the record and it wants to move right until it hits the grooves and then it will stay secure! hope this helps...

When i first purchased my S 19 a few years ago, i had to get a new stylus right off the bat, before i even played my first DD, i tested it with a disc that i keep as as a test disc (that is a disc that i really do not like) but is good to use for tests when you get a new reproducer or new stylus put on you can test the old one as well.. A great way i have found as i did when i was first new to EDISON DD machines, You can tell if the stylus need replacing, because the needle(if worn or chipped) will greatly distort the records and will leave like a "yellow" trail as it tracks along the record. the two DD reproducers i have i sent out first thing to have new gaskets and stylus put in as well as new linkage. I also have a DANCE reproducer and an EDISONIC( same reproducer except does not have a 3 screw flange for the extra spring inside) that i have had completely overhauled and they work fabulous.new stylus and gaskets...cost of around 90 bucks each one to be worked on.) of course it is recommened that you have one DD machine for a DANCE/EDISONIC reproducer, as depending on howyou have the height adjustment set u may have to raise or lower to accomidate the DD reproducer. I have two DD s-19s that i use the dance and edisonics on as well as my regular reproducer and didnt really have to do any height adjusting. sometimes you just get lucky. Most DD books will explain the method of how to adjust your height. Just keep your machine well oiled and lubed up and it will last you for years to come! Both of my edison DD machines play beautifully,
